gadget case

Suitcase?  Attache case?  Ok, so we've stretched the definition a tad here but we figured this case was worth it.  Featured in the 1963 James Bond film From Russia with Love this famous case was not packed full of spare undies and a spot of night time reading, oh no.

Apparently it contained the following:

images copyright Danjaq LLC and United Artists Corporation
  • 50 rounds of .25 ammunition concealed in tubes in the bottom of the case
  • Two flat throwing knives hidden in the sides of the case
  • A cyanide death pill concealed in the handle of the case, which is released by applying pressure to a certain point of the handle
  • A tube of Palmolive shaving cream, whose top unscrews to reveal a silencer for Bond's Beretta, wrapped in cotton wool
  • 50 gold sovereigns in the lid of the case
We don't recommend any of this, obviously, but felt we just had to feature it in our list of unusual and famous suitcases.

usual suitcase

Just for a bit of fun we're going to be running a series of blogspots on unusual & famous suitcases.  First up is the famous B2 spy transmitter-receiver in a suitcase, as used by the Agents of the Special Operations Executive during WWII.

The designer of the B2 set was the late John Brown, G3EUR, who was also the co-founder of the Duxford Radio Society.  This B2 set, serial no. 90489, is fully operational and is regularly demonstrated at special events.

James Bond eat your heart out!  Although we reckon this James Bond attache case featured in Russia with Love packs a pretty mean punch if you're looking for gadgets in a suitcase.

We received the suitcase on time on the day you arranged. We are especially satisfied with your attention to the delivery; excellent service. I would say you have got it right from order to delivery. I really like it when there is a personal intervention to sort things out. So, well done and thank you.
