I remember playing this one as a child with my brother and mum in the car while my dad drove. It's an ideal game for older children (aged 7+) and just requires a piece of paper and pen for each player.
How to play
Each player has to divide their paper into columns headed with about 5 categories. You can choose the most appropriate categories for the age range of kids playing. Here are some ideas or you can make up your own:
-
Town
-
River or sea
-
Country
-
Song
-
Film
-
Book
-
TV character
-
Animal
-
Food type
-
Plant
One player chooses a letter from the alphabet at random (or you just start with 'A') and then each player has to write down as quickly as they can an example under each category that begins with the chosen letter. The first person to complete must shout 'STOP' and all other players have to stop writing, regardless of whether they have an entry under each column.
Scoring
Players score 10 points for each original correct entry and 5 points for each correct entry if it is shared with another. Just keep going choosing a different letter each time you play until everyone's had enough.
Good luck!
